MBJ: Campbell Clinic surgeon receives high honor
“S. Terry Canale, an orthopedic surgeon who has practiced at Campbell Clinic for the past four decades, has received one of the highest recognitions awarded by any national health care academy.
Canale was honored with the William W. Tipton, Jr. MD Leadership Award during the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) annual conference in Orlando.
The Tipton Leadership Award is a lifetime achievement honor that recognizes living AAOS fellows or members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities that have led to benefits for the orthopedic community, patients and the American public.
Canale has held numerous teaching, research and mentoring roles within the Memphis orthopedic community, as well as with national orthopedic associations AAOS and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. He served in the past as president for both organizations.
As a specialty society leader, Canale instituted the development of a center for surgical skills education. He was visionary in recognizing that the establishment of an Orthopaedic Learning Center would allow surgeons to safely learn and adopt new surgical skills.”
