MBJ: Popsicle place to open in East Memphis this weekend
“Mempops is about to debut its first shop just in time for spring.
The all-natural, handcrafted popsicle business — already known for its signature blue mail truck — will open the doors on its first physical storefront Saturday, March 12.
Mempops is located in the Park Place Centre at 1243 Ridgeway Road in the tenant bay formerly occupied by Rock-n-Dough Pizza Co.
For the grand opening celebration, all popsicles will be $2.00. The normal price is $3.25 per popsicle. The flavors currently featured include Mexican chocolate, strawberries and cream, arroz con leche, orange vanilla, Reverb Coffee dulce de leche, avocado lime, strawberry, pineapple coconut, mint lemonade and spicy pineapple.
“I like the freshness of the fruit to come through in the flavor,” said Chris Taylor, owner of Mempops, in a release.
The business was founded in April 2015. The bulk of the ingredients come from the Cooper-Young Farmers Market, and all natural cane sugar is used to sweeten the popsicles.
Mempops plans to offer “make your own pops” parties and eventually wants to add boozy pops to the menu once it obtains a liquor license.
The hours of operation for the Park Place Centre location are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.”
