MBJ: TVA plan includes solar in Somerville

“The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) awarded four power companies a combined 16.7 megawatts of solar energy capacity. And, one is in nearby Fayette County.

The four companies — two from Tennessee and two from Alabama — applied for the capacity through the Distributed Solar Solutions pilot program. According to the TVA, once the projects are complete, more than 1,300-homes-worth of solar power will be a part of the TVA grid.

“Distributed Solar Solutions is an important Valley solar initiative. It brings our LPCs and solar developers together to generate clean energy in a thoughtful and collaborative manner that best serves the region’s nine million consumers,” said Cindy Herron, TVA’s vice president of EnergyRight Solutions.

A Somerville-based utility co-operative, Chickasaw Electric Cooperative, was among the four announced. It serves more than 18,000 homes in Fayette County and a few hundred more homes in Haywood and Hardeman counties in Tennessee and a small number of homes in Marshall County, Mississippi.”
