MBJ: UTHSC researcher receives $1.7 million grant
A University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) professor has received a $1.68 million grant to study the digestive tract.
The five-year grant is from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. It will allow Radhakrishna Rao, a professor in the Department of Physiology in the College of Medicine, to study how the intestine blocks toxins from entering the bloodstream. Rao’s research will focus on how that process is disrupted, leading the development of gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome.
