MBJ: Memphis company makes hay with Olympics
With the 2016 Rio Olympic Games wrapping up this week, one Memphis-based logistics company is proud of its role in helping all the athletes compete — all the four-legged athletes, at least.
Memphis-based Dunavant Enterprises Inc. shipped all the hay needed for the equine disciplines during the Summer Olympic Games in Rio.
Kentucky Equine Research, an international equine nutrition, research and consultation company based in Versailles, Kentucky, contracted with Dunavant to manage hay shipments from Lexington, Kentucky to a port in Rio de Janeiro.
According to Dunavant, U.S. grown hay is recognized as the best hay in the world for athletic horses and was used by all the equine competitors at the Olympics — not just U.S. horses. Kentucky Equine Research’s feeds and nutritional supplements are marketed on six continents.
