MDN: Memphis International Airport Wins Top Communications Honors
Memphis International Airport was the big awards winner at the Airports Council International-North America national conference in Salt Lake City, Utah this week.
MEM received the 2016 Peggy G. Hereford Award as the airport with the most overall recognition in ACI-NA’s annual Excellence in Airport Marketing, Communications, and Customer Service Awards.
MEM took home first-place honors in the Brand Identity, Video and Film Production and Public Relations Campaigns categories. The Memphis airport also received honorable mentions in the two categories Newsletters and Social Media Campaigns.
In 2015, Allen signed a three-year, $530,000 marketing contract with the airport and a separate deal worth $44,000 to become its official spokesperson.
The ACI-NA contest involved more than 320 entries in 19 categories.
The Peggy G. Hereford Award is regarded throughout the airport industry as the highest honor an airport can earn for marketing and communications excellence. Its namesake was public affairs director at Los Angeles International Airport, where she was the first woman to head the public relations department for a major U.S. airport, retiring in 1977.
A founding member of the ACI-NA Marketing and Communications Committee, Hereford championed the notion that the adventure and spirit of aviation should inspire the ways airports tell their stories.
