MBJ: Popular Asian restaurant preps third location
One of Memphis’ most popular Asian restaurants is working on a third location.
Mulan Asian Bistro, which has won the Memphis Flyer’s “Best Chinese” category for five years running, is preparing to open a new location at 4698 Spottswood Ave., in the Audubon Place shopping center. The Asian restaurant will occupy the 4,600-square-foot former home of Mac’s Burgers, which recently closed.
Mulan co-owner Nora Dang said Monday that she was drawn to the shopping center because of its proximity to businesses and because of East Memphis’ relative lack of Asian fusion.
Dang said her restaurant stands out because of its authenticity, saying it’s the only restaurant in town to offer an authentic Szechuan menu along with its normal menu.
To achieve this authenticity, Dang said she sends her chefs to China to train for six months.
The East Memphis location will be different from the Collierville and Midtown locations, Dang said, in that it will offer hibachi options.
Dang said she expects the restaurant to open May 1.
