MBJ: Best places to find a job: Miami, Austin and … Memphis?
If you’re looking for a job, Memphis is a good place to be.
A newly published list of the best cities for job-seekers ranked Memphis as No. 10 in the nation, just behind high-growth cities Miami, Austin and Houston.
Of the top 16 metro areas highlighted by jobs site Indeed, all of them are in the South and the West, and only one other city in the top 10 is outside Florida, Texas and California.
Indeed, which claims to be the world’s most popular jobs website, calculated scores for 50 U.S. metro areas by looking at four measures: Job market favorability, which Indeed defined as the “ratio of job postings vs. job seeker interest”; salary weighted for cost of living; work/life balance; and job security and advancement rankings.
Memphis got high marks in job market favorability as well as in job security and advancement.
..Rounding out the rest of the top 10 are Austin; Sacramento; San Jose, California; Jacksonville, Florida; San Diego; Houston; and Memphis…
In a release, Indeed senior vice president Paul D’Arcy said the collected information shows a trend of people “moving away from cold places looking to live in warm climates.”
“Manufacturing jobs have steadily declined over the years and haven’t shown promise for career growth like a generation ago,” D’Arcy said. “Those states are working to diversify their economy to attract workers and keep talent in their state.”
