LocalMemphis: Nearly 250 School Children Received Free Bikes
Nearly 250 kids got free bikes at the Liberty Bowl today, but they had to earn them.
249 children in Shelby County Schools who had perfect attendance with no tardys for the entire school year received the bicycles. Thirteen elementary and middle schools were represented at today’s event.
Some of the super students we talked to say the bike will help make their summer a great one. The Memphis High-Tailer Bicycle Club chipped in to get each kid a free helmet and t-shirt.
This was the fourth year for the event. Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich was on hand to give the bikes away.
