“In 2004, when Jay Sieleman supervised his first International Blues Challenge, the musical competition was still a relatively modest one: 60 or so acts, mostly from the U.S., appearing at a handful of clubs on Beale Street over a few nights. Eleven years later, Sieleman, the outgoing Blues Foundation president and CEO, will be overseeing his last IBC and the growth in that interim has been impressive. On Thursday, Tupelo launches a birthday celebration fit for the king of rock and roll.
