Airport parking revenue has shot up $5 million, or 45 percent since 2011. The net gain rises to $7 million considering a $2 million-a-year savings from not running exhaust-belching shuttle buses to ferry passengers and employees from distant surface parking lots. The report demonstrates the 14th consecutive quarter of year-over-year declining airline ticket prices at Memphis International Airport (MEM). Average airfare has fallen $44.06 from the same quarter last year, when average airfare was $443.04 in the first quarter of 2015. MDN: Memphis Airport Receives $12.4 Million Federal Grant Congressman Steve Cohen has announced a $12.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to go toward the modernization of the Memphis International’s Airport’s Concourse B as well as improvement of security and the access road. The Airport Improvement Program grant will fund the initial design phase for modernization of Concourse B after the elimination of Delta Airlines’ hub. “The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority has sold a piece of vacant land on the Mississippi state line to Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. The Thomasville, North Carolina-based less-than-truckload carrier purchased 43 lots in the Windwoods Subdivision on Airways Boulevard for $310,000. The airport authority began purchasing and leveling parts of the subdivision in the 1980s when Congress passed the Aviation Safety and Noise Abatement Act of 1979. The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority has reached an agreement with SeaPort Airlines Inc. to expand the passenger carrier’s presence at the airport. Portland, Oregon-based SeaPort has been at Memphis International since 2009, operating out of Signature Flight Support, a fixed-base operator on the airport’s grounds.
